Steven Long

ARTIST'S BIO

Local artist, Steven long has been painting most of his life. His mother provided him with subscriptions to several modern art magazines at an early age and he quickly realized that his true passion was for the abstract view of things. His favorite painters include Picasso, Paul Klee and Salvador Dali. The sum of his art education is self taught and a result of many hours spent painting and experimenting with different techniques and ways to apply paint. Steven began painting with watercolors and recently has begun to experiment with acrylics. He still uses many of his learned watercolor techniques while applying acrylics in washes and yet also enjoys the feel of a palette knife and the textures that can be created. All of his work is created while listening to music. He enjoys all types of music, whether it be classical, jazz, R&B or his favorite, good old rock and roll. He believes that the music stimulates his creative juices and often creates a mood or an emotion that flows onto the paper or canvas.

Steven’s world is a world of paint, music and at times he likes to think possibly a little bit of magic. He relies on the colors, contrast and texture to convey his feelings and make things visible to the person viewing his work. It is often a journey that is at times challenging but certainly never boring. The result, he believes, is often a painting that is more about an emotional response rather than a subject or a thing.

Steven is a member of the Pomona Valley Art Association and also a member of the Associated Artists of the Inland Empire.
