Maryann Rachford

ARTIST'S BIO

Maryann comes from a traditional art background receiving her B.A. in painting & printmaking. She then earned her M. A. in “pre-computer” graphic design and film art direction, along with a teaching credential in art. She has evolved into the computer age (preferring MACs but does cross platform) & now teaches classes in computer graphics, web and digital design, along with beginning drawing. Additionally, Maryann has an interest in art history and teaches an on-line class in this subject.

Besides teaching full time at Citrus, she is adjunct at Azusa Pacific University where she teaches Introduction to Art classes & Theatre Production. In Theatre Production she teaches students how to design, paint sets, and use power tools (she’s the APU theatre’s art director). Finally, she is nearing the end of her Doctorate Degree in, what else, art education. She believes that everything can be taught through art. She is totally addicted to art and in her spare time works her own graphic design firm, works with her husband, Thom, on Christian films, creates stained glass pieces, and works in clay having a wheel and two kilns in her backyard, along with painting and illustrating.

She’s exhibited in many shows, winning several awards, and one of her watercolors is in the permanent collection of the AFL-CIO. She is an auto racing fanatic (NASCAR, CART, IRL) and boxing aficionado. Maryann believes in life long learning, because it is something that cannot be taken away from you and increases your value to others and especially yourself.
