John L. Wolfskill

ARTIST'S BIO

“I believe in realism in my work, be it on canvas, wood or rocks. I love being creative. Using different surfaces for my art, I am challenged to be the best I can be. I like the textures that unconventional surfaces add to my paintings."

John participated in his first art exhibition at age 14, where he sold his first painting for $15.00. He had his first solo art exhibition when in the US Air Force, in Spain in 1971, while stationed in Europe.

Asked when he got into painting on all the unusual surfaces, John replied: "I’ve been working on these types of paintings since 1999. I also pride myself on my seascapes/wave paintings. I love the sights and sounds of surf breaking in on the rocks and the resulting sea spray. I strive to capture those particular moments in such a way that allows others to travel with me to the oceans edge when they view my work."

“I'm mostly self taught, I like to work from photos that I have taken or at least get the idea for my painting from them. Since I'm self taught... each painting is a learning experience. For over 40 years I have been painting my own style and I hope others get as much pleasure from my work as get from creating it.”

John is a new PVAA member; his work is on display regularly in our Monthly Art Shows.
